• Schwerdtner Medizin-Software GmbH used Omnis to create the Q.MED-AERO mobile app that allows pilots to track their medical certificates and other health data required for flying.

Facilities & Services

• Alphaplan AG developed a mobile-enabled management solution for commercial facilities & domestic property to allow their employees to track client visits, record completed jobs, manage schedules, handle billing, and so on (shown in the images below).
• Anaphore created a comprehensive solution for managing small and large archives using Omnis.

Finance & Asset Management

• MoPhilly has used Omnis for many successful applications including Pops Royalty, a solution for managing mineral assets.

The October meeting was attended by 10 OTC members, with some flying in to Frankfurt from North America and Australia, while others made the shorter trip from the UK, Italy, France and Germany (plus we had two others on video conference). A wide range of topics was discussed, in a very focused and open-minded atmosphere, including major new features and functional areas, support of new technologies, licensing and pricing options, as well as ideas about how to improve communication with the Omnis developer community.

The Tech committee meetings provide a great opportunity for our Management team to learn more about the experiences and different requirements of customers from different regions, industries and application areas, and the insights gained are so useful in our planning for future products and services.

The OTC was founded two years ago and serves as an advisory board for the Omnis management with regard to current market requirements, technology trends and industry changes. Members come from all parts of the world and represent significant customers with a very advanced technical knowledge of Omnis Studio and other modern technologies, who can therefore provide a high level of expertise from their market segments/industries. The OTC members meet twice a year for face-to-face meetings and hold web conferences in between.

This support and direct communication with such a talented group of key Omnis developers is extremely valuable for Omnis Software, and ensures that we understand the latest trends and requirements in the Omnis developer community. And this is one of the many reasons why we are so close to our customers and are able to understand exactly what our customers need to succeed in their application development and business plans.

The latest case studies include:

Royal Botania, manufacturer of luxury outdoor furniture and accessories based in Belgium, has switched from its former ERP system and a FrontBase database to SAP Business One and MS SQL Server, and thanks to Omnis this change was carried out easily and in a short time. Royal Botania developed various solutions for different departments to enhance the existing functionality of SAP Business One, most of them integrated as REST calls in the SAP windows, and to ensure a better user experience. They have been implemented in a fraction of the time it would have taken to add to SAP. The German development company usoft GmbH, in conjunction with Omnis Software, enabled special components manufacturer Eberhard to maintain and enhance its more than 30-year-old COBOL-based ERP system. The system forms the heart of its component production and enabled the addition of a modern web shop in a few weeks. Within only two weeks, usoft created a prototype using the Omnis JavaScript Client which was then implemented to a full usable system within six weeks. The French software developer Anaphore sarl is a specialist for archive solutions. Its customers include many well-known public and private archives in France and the Caribbean. Thanks to Omnis Studio and with a relatively small team, Anaphore has created Arkhéïa, a complete solution for the management of archive holdings, to the production of EAD-compliant finding aids, that meets the international standards and norms for the archival process. Arkhéïa users are professional archivists in institutions of all sizes, from small archives that manage only a few meters of documents to those that store over 80 kilometers of archive documents. Hello my name is Mayada Al Kishtini. I’m a full-stack Oracle certified software developer with 20 years of experience based in Ontario Canada. I started my career as a Visual Basic developer working on client-server applications then I moved to web development using ASP classic and asp.net technologies until 2003. At that point my journey with Omnis started.

I like Omnis for many reasons: first the simplicity of the language. Omnis is a high-level language that elevates a developer to a level where they don’t need to worry about the details of the low-level elements of the software language and the operating system. Omnis also provides a rich development tool and a powerful debugger that allows the developer to be totally expressive and produce a unique and rich solution for the market they wish to serve, in a short period of time.

A particularly neat experience I had with Omnis recently, when I worked on a desktop application that was developed using the Model View Control, I managed to use or to benefit from that design by adding a web interface to the application in a short period of time with minimal changes to the code implementation and the business logic. I basically modified the code a little bit in the controller to make it support multiple interfaces. Using the same technology and the JS client we managed to create a bridge between our legacy application and the Studio application in our migration process from legacy to Studio. I also was able to create a JS client interface to a .NET application using the Omnis .NET objects and the JSON components.

What I also like about Omnis is the library based structure of its application, which simplifies the process of managing and deploying the application to production sites. Omnis maintained its IDE and application structure consistently over the last four decades, which encourages me as a developer to embrace the new versions of the software, knowing that I won’t face a steep learning curve.

All in all, Omnis has enabled me to work on solutions to serve various users and businesses. These applications range from advertisement tracking, job management system, timesheet, dealership management system, which includes CRM, payroll & accounting. In fact all the companies that I worked with so far that serve Omnis applications are leaders in their market which I think is a testament to the versatility and applicability of Omnis as a language.
